Cheapest Ways to Send Money from UAE to India in 2026
With over 3 million Indians in the UAE, AED-to-INR remittance is a billion-dollar flow. Here's how to stop losing money on exchange rates and fees.

Indians are the largest expat community in the UAE, and remittances to India represent one of the country's largest inbound money flows. Despite this, most people still use methods that cost them significantly more than necessary.
The true cost of remittance
Most people focus on the exchange rate shown but miss the full picture. The real cost is: (transfer fee) + (exchange rate margin vs mid-market rate). A bank might show "0 transfer fee" but hide 2-3% in the exchange rate spread. On AED 5,000, that's AED 100-150 you're leaving on the table every month โ AED 1,200-1,800 per year.
Best options ranked by cost
Wise (formerly TransferWise) consistently offers the lowest margins โ typically 0.4-0.7% above the mid-market rate plus a small flat fee. On large transfers it's almost always the cheapest option. The trade-off is that it's a UK fintech, not a local name.
LuLu Exchange and Al Ansari Exchange are the dominant local options. They're competitive on AED/INR, usually within 1-1.5% of mid-market, and have the advantage of cash pickup options for recipients without bank accounts in India.
Bank transfers are almost always the most expensive. ENBD, ADCB, and FAB typically add 2-3% margin plus AED 25-50 transfer fees. Only use your bank if you're in a hurry and it's the only option.
Western Union has ATM-convenient locations but the rates are poor โ often 3-4% above mid-market on popular corridors.
Timing matters for large transfers
The AED is pegged to the USD, so AED/INR effectively moves with USD/INR. Over a 12-month period, this can fluctuate 5-8%. If you're making a large transfer (buying property, sending a lump sum), watching the rate for a few weeks and using a limit order feature (available on Wise) can save meaningfully.
Practical advice
For regular monthly transfers: compare Wise vs LuLu Exchange on the day. The difference on AED 3,000 is usually AED 15-40 โ worth a 2-minute check. For transfers above AED 20,000: always use Wise or get a rate quote from at least two providers. For recipients without bank accounts: LuLu Exchange's cash pickup network in India is unmatched.
