Sending Money from UAE to UK and Europe: Best Options in 2026
Sending dirhams to the UK, Europe, or anywhere outside South Asia? The options are different — and the savings can be even larger. Here's the guide.

While the big remittance volumes from the UAE flow to India, Pakistan, and the Philippines, hundreds of thousands of British, European, and other Western expats send money home regularly. The corridor is different — and often, the savings available are even larger than on South Asian routes.
Why Western currency corridors work differently
GBP, EUR, and USD are major global currencies traded by every financial institution. The mid-market rate is highly competitive and the spreads are tight. However, traditional bank wire transfers still take a large margin — UAE banks typically charge AED 25-50 in fees plus 1.5-2.5% on the exchange rate. On a AED 10,000 transfer to the UK, that could be AED 275 in total costs. On Wise, the same transfer costs under AED 80.
Best options for AED to GBP (UK)
Wise is the clear winner for GBP transfers. Their UK banking infrastructure means transfers arrive same-day via Faster Payments to any UK bank account. The fee is typically 0.6-0.8% of the transfer amount with mid-market rates — no spread. On large transfers (property deposits, major remittances), this difference versus a bank transfer is substantial.
For AED to EUR (Europe)
Wise again leads, with same-day SEPA transfers across the Eurozone. TapTapSend is worth comparing for certain European corridors — their zero-fee structure can sometimes edge ahead. Revolut is popular with European expats who maintain a Revolut account on both ends, as the transfer becomes internal and near-instant with minimal fees.
For AED to USD (US)
Wise connects to US bank accounts via ACH with typically 1-2 business day delivery. The transfer cost is low (0.5-0.7%). For very large transfers, some UAE banks offer competitive rates for USD specifically — worth getting a quote for amounts above AED 50,000.
What about remittance to Australia or Canada?
Both are well-served by Wise and Remitly. Wise's AED to AUD and AED to CAD rates are competitive, with 1-2 business day delivery to standard bank accounts. OFX (formerly OzForex) is a specialist in larger AUD transfers and worth comparing for amounts above AED 20,000.
Things to watch on Western corridors
Western currencies are more sensitive to macroeconomic events than pegged currencies. If you're making a large one-off transfer (property purchase, investment), the rate on the day matters more than on a monthly salary transfer. Consider using Wise's Forward Contract feature to lock in a rate up to 2 years in advance for large planned transfers.
