Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a flat rate and a reducing rate?▾
A flat rate charges interest on the full original loan amount for the entire term. A reducing (diminishing) balance rate only charges interest on what you still owe, so interest falls as you repay. A flat rate of 5% over 4 years costs roughly the same as a 9.2% reducing rate — always compare loans on the reducing rate.
How much can I borrow on a personal loan in the UAE?▾
UAE Central Bank rules cap personal loans at 20 times your monthly salary, with a maximum term of 48 months. Your total monthly debt repayments, including the new loan, also can't exceed 50% of your salary.
What fees come with a UAE personal loan?▾
Expect a processing fee of up to 1% of the loan amount, and sometimes a life insurance premium. Early settlement fees are capped by the Central Bank at 1% of the outstanding balance (maximum AED 10,000).
Do I need a salary transfer to get a personal loan?▾
Not always, but salary-transfer loans usually come with lower rates and higher limits. Non-salary-transfer loans are available from some banks with stricter eligibility and higher rates.
