Frequently asked questions
What is the nisab for zakat?▾
The nisab is the minimum wealth on which zakat is due. Using the gold standard it equals the value of 85 grams of pure (24K) gold, so it changes with the gold price. This calculator uses today's UAE gold rate.
How much zakat do I pay?▾
Zakat is 2.5% of your total zakatable wealth — cash, savings, gold, silver, investments and money owed to you — minus debts currently due, provided it has stayed above the nisab for one lunar year.
Is zakat due on gold jewellery?▾
Scholars differ. The Hanafi school holds that all gold, including jewellery worn regularly, is zakatable; other schools exempt jewellery for normal personal use. If in doubt, consult a scholar or the UAE Zakat Fund.
Where can I pay zakat in the UAE?▾
Through the UAE Zakat Fund (zakatfund.gov.ae), Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), or licensed charities such as Dubai Cares and the Emirates Red Crescent.
